TETSUO MIZU
(1944)

Born in Tokyo in 1944, Tetsuo Mizu was drawn to art by the admiration of Modigliani, and started studying art at Musashino Art Academy in 1971.
In his most well-renown series, the Flag series, Mizu embeds in his paintings the alphabet of maritime signal flags, used by ships to communicate between them in the open seas.
His bright primary colors and geometric shapes convey joyful memories of his permanence along the Mediterranean Sea.
He has had several solo exhibitions in Japan, The Netherlands and Italy among others.
